Begin with a drive to the ancient kingdom of Wessex, where you’ll visit the world-famous Stonehenge monument. With a history spanning 5,000 years, this stone circle continues to be shrouded in mystery and myth. Know about the giant stones located on Salisbury Plain from your guide. Absorb the powerful presence of this ancient site and admire the views before continuing on the drive through beautiful Wiltshire and Somerset, passing thatched cottages and idyllic villages en route to the city of Bath. Both Romans and Georgians have left their mark in Bath. The only hot thermal springs in Britain were a draw for those early invaders from warmer lands, and the Roman resort of Aqua Sulis can be seen in the Roman Baths Museum. The Georgian elite of London arrived here in the 18th century to take the waters and cure themselves of rheumatic disease and gout. The elegant squares, circuses, and crescents date from this time. After lunch and a guided tour of this delightful city you’ll continue on to Royal Windsor. The remainder of the tour will be spent in Windsor, home to the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world, and the Queen’s favorite home. Your guide will give you a full account of the history of this royal residence and take you on a tour of the famous town. Walk in the footsteps of royalty and politicians and enter the castle (closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays).
Inside the castle, you can admire the fine furniture and paintings owned by Her Majesty. See Queen Mary's Dolls' House and visit St. George's Chapel, the final resting place of English kings and queens, including Henry VIII and Charles I. Head back to London via historic Runnymede where the Magna Carta was sealed by King John in 1215.
